El Paso Murder Sentences and Case Outcomes
These selected El Paso murder cases describe three reported Texas outcomes with different sentence reporting. The article covers murder convictions, not capital murder or federal homicide cases. A reported case total is identified where the source does not isolate the murder count.
Evidence scope: 3 retained prosecution clusters. Relevant news narratives and, where specified, court and execution records were read September 29, 2026 UTC. Independent precise incorporated-city offense-point qualification, full historical-law matching and complete later-docket review remain open. These selected records are not a citywide distribution, an average or a prediction; imposed terms do not establish time actually served.
Offense and jurisdiction
These reports describe Texas murder convictions, separately from capital murder. Labels borrowed from another state do not establish the Texas conviction or punishment grade; the actual judgment and applicable historical statute control.
No current statutory punishment range is supplied for these historical cases. The official statutory lookup did not return readable provisions during this check; that access limitation does not establish a broken link or verify offense-date law.
Reported outcomes
| Case | Reported El Paso connection | Reported sentence and scope |
|---|---|---|
| Angel Hinojos | Outside Jalisco Cafe in Segundo Barrio, South El Paso | Jury assessed 27 years on August 21, 2025 after an August 19 guilty verdict; August 22 is the report date |
| Anthony Matthew Zubia | Victim found in a car at Tim Foster Park on June 18, 2023; the report does not establish the precise shooting point | 30 years reported for the murder/tampering plea. Combined or unallocated case outcome. April 2024 guilty plea/sentence; story updated July 17, 2024 |
| Rene Martinez | North Zaragoza Road, El Paso; September 30, 2024 | February 24, 2026 reported jury assessment: 70 years and $10,000 fine for murder; separate 20 years and $10,000 collision fine; 90 years reported total |
How to read these sentences
Hinojos’s twenty-seven years and Martinez’s seventy-year murder term are allocated murder outcomes. Zubia’s thirty years was reported with a murder-and-tampering plea and is treated here as a combined case report. Martinez’s separate twenty-year collision term is not silently added to the murder figure. Zubia’s April plea report does not isolate a murder-only term or give the precise sentencing day. Martinez’s figures are the reported jury assessment; the entered judgment was not independently inspected here. These selected cases do not establish an average or a citywide sentencing norm.
Why not describe every reported total as punishment for murder alone?
A multi-count case can include separately punished conduct. Without a reliable allocation, the total says what happened in that prosecution, not what one isolated offense received.
