Baltimore Second-Degree Assault Sentences and Case Outcomes
Mooney’s second-degree assault term is ten years, with reckless endangerment merged for sentencing; the 28-year total also includes consecutive firearm terms. Staron’s prosecutor release lists both first- and second-degree assault among the axe-case convictions but gives no separate assault sentence, and its life terms also cover a separate cellmate-murder case. Those totals cannot form a second-degree-assault-only range.
Evidence scope: Two named assault-related offense episodes are shown, not a complete citywide sample. Staron is one defendant: the separate cellmate murder is not another qualifying assault cluster. Mooney was acquitted of both attempted-murder degrees and first-degree assault, so those charges are not conviction outcomes in this case. The October 13, 2023 unreported opinion affirmed his judgments, not all possible later proceedings. Relevant available court/prosecutor passages were read September 28, 2026. Independent municipal-point and broader later-docket review are incomplete; a reported sentence or one affirmance does not establish exhausted appeals. This selected sample is not all Baltimore cases, an average, a typical sentence or a prediction.
Offense and jurisdiction
The conviction label and governing system control. This page covers Maryland state/local cases only. State/local and federal outcomes are not mixed.
Legal reference: governing law reference. Statutory punishment and observed case outcomes are different; the law applicable to the offense date and the individual judgment must be checked.

How to read the outcomes
A target-count allocation may describe one count, while an aggregate term may cover multiple counts, enhancements, or proceedings. Aggregate totals are not converted into an isolated sentence for Second-Degree Assault. No average or numerical citywide range is calculated.
The actual conviction label controls, not the initial charges or the general crime label. A total spanning several counts or cases cannot be allocated to one count by inference, and it does not establish actual time served or a release date.
