Memphis Vehicular Homicide by Intoxication Sentences and Case Outcomes
Johnson’s reviewed guilty plea carried ten years; the 2011 court affirmed confinement rather than alternative sentencing. Cowan’s earlier numerical and location claims have not been reverified from the underlying opinion and are withheld from comparison.
These selected records do not establish two fully qualified comparable incorporated-city outcomes. Multiple counts and later appeals do not create additional independent prosecutions.
Tennessee State/Local Scope
These are Tennessee state records, not federal judgments. The statutory reference is not automatically the governing historical law. No current numerical statutory range is asserted.
Selected Historical Records
| Record | Offense-location evidence | Term and review status | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| James Johnson | Court describes Orchi Road turn onto Jackson Avenue; exact incorporated-city point not independently qualified | Ten-year guilty-plea term; confinement affirmed August 18, 2011. Scope: one intoxication conviction, not three indictment counts | Court source |
| Willie J. Cowan Jr. | Earlier South Parkway/Castilia point not reverified from underlying opinion | No reverified numerical sentence asserted. Scope: excluded pending readable underlying record and later-outcome review | Court source |
Johnson: Charges, Plea and Manner of Service
The August 18, 2011 opinion, W2010-01674-CCA-R3-CD, Shelby 09-00747, distinguishes three charged homicide categories from the guilty plea to vehicular homicide by intoxication. The negotiated term was ten years; the trial court later required confinement and the appeal upheld denial of alternative sentencing. The opinion does not supply an exact original sentencing day. Its plea narrative dates the 2008 collision September 21 while its analysis says September 20; that one-day source conflict is not silently resolved. Neither date is the victim’s October 8 death or the 2011 review date.
Do Not Match Cases by Intersection Alone
The previously linked Memphis Police Department intersection report concerns a March 20, 2025 pedestrian hit-and-run, not Johnson’s 2008 motorcycle collision. It is at most separate location context, not a source for his conviction, sentence or offense date. No claim that it independently completes boundary qualification is made.
Cowan: Access Remains Unverified
The official court PDF retrieval returned browser-validation content. An indexed court listing identifies W2000-03140-CCA-R3-CD, but that is not a reading of the underlying count-allocation and offense-location passages. The old numerical sentence and exact-city qualification are not repeated as verified facts. This is an access limitation, not proof of a broken URL, wrong conviction or dismissal.
Source and Comparison Limits
Relevant court passages were read September 28, 2026 UTC (September 29 in Istanbul). Actual text review and fresh downloadable access are different: some official retrievals returned browser-validation content. Complete later-docket, offense-date law and independent incorporated-city point checks remain open. No average, typical term, predicted sentence, time served or release date is inferred.
These selected reported records are not all Memphis cases, an average, a typical sentence or a prediction. Imposed terms and unsuspended portions do not establish time actually served or a release date. Read the case-selection methodology, editorial standards and Memphis sentencing hub.
